Function
Operational (project related):

  • Represent Supply Chain within the Project Team.  Report status on Cost, Quality and Time on a bi-weekly basis and chair weekly Supply Chain Project Meeting (equipment). Take a leading role within the Supply Chain Team.
  • Coordinate an Equipment Supply Plan at the start of the project in consultation with Sr. Buyers, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering and Project Management. Plan should include activities, planning, potential suppliers, budgets, opportunities for savings and risks.
  • Process engineering specifications and purchase requisitions into purchase orders (procedure C10).
  • Coordinate, manage and communicate the supply of equipment between the Project Team, the Supply Chain Team and the Suppliers. Manage supply costs and deliverables within project budget and timeline. Provide input to the Delivery Program Meeting. Attend weekly / daily project meetings.
  • Minimize Cost without jeopardizing Quality and Time/Planning by requesting multiple quotes, negotiate pricing and conditions, and other opportunities.
  • Coordinate logistical and freight issues with ‘Quality & Logistics Control’.
  • Support ‘Quality & Logistics Control’ in resolving quality issues.
  • Coordinate and resolve issues related to receiving and invoicing with Site Management and Finance & Control.
  • Support quick resolution of Site Problem Reports with Engineering, Site Management and Suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date data in JD Edwards (promise dates, acknowledgements, receipts, etc.)
  • Document and archive important project information to protect VI interests.

Tactical (non project related)

  • Suggest and implement supply opportunities and strategies that reduce cost, risk or improve quality.  Optimize procedure ‘C10 Purchase Equipment’.
  • Support the development and implementation of effective standards, templates, systems and procedures for procurement.
  • Coordinate system (JD Edwards) related problems with the applicable parties.
  • Train organization on procurement standards and procedures. Coach new Supply Chain employees on Supply Chain systems and procedures.
  • Back-up other Project Buyers during absence.

Your profile

  • BS, BA degree or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) degree.
  • Experience with entering and expediting purchase orders.
  • Experience with ERP systems (AS400 / JD Edwards).
  • Strong computer skills;  PROFICIENT IN EXCEL.
  • Good negotiating and procurement skills.
  • Excellent communications skills; strong people skills, team player.
  • Experience in a project driven organization desirable.
  • Technical / Mechanical training or experience, AutoCAD training desirable.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in Purchasing, preferably in a project drive organization.
