Your role

Working within London Heathrow Airport, the Duty Engineer will be leading, coordinating & managing the Engineering team to ensure great productivity, equipment availability, health & safety compliance, maximo reporting and team working is optimised in accordance with agreed timescales. 

You will be performing the following tasks:

  • Manage the shift-based Engineering maintenance technicians to carry out planned preventive, corrective and reactive maintenance.  
  • Maintain and optimise the performance of the equipment and staff in terms of operational safety, availability, responsiveness and throughput to meet Vanderlande’s contractual service levels.  
  • Act as first point of escalation and seek to resolve issues as they arise. 
  • Closely monitor resource levels to ensure the correct balance between maintaining system performance and meeting financial targets.
  • Disseminate comprehensive, accurate and presentable reports according to the contractual obligations and other mutual agreements in a timely manner. Ensure all work entered into Maximo correctly and in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure stock is booked out and issue with parts removed have adequate documentation to repair. 
  • Ensure proper handover to oncoming shifts including ongoing unresolved matters, areas of concern and plant equipment that is out of service.  
  • Ensure work is carried out “right first time” and instigate root cause for major or repetitive breakdowns 
  • Responsible for the Vanderlande maintenance team and any contractors working on their behalf with the primary objective to achieve optimum performance, productivity and reliability, including where necessary measures to improve performance.

  • Demonstrate problem/fault finding skills.  
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate precisely both in writing and verbally at all levels. 
  • Be computer literate 
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings 
  • Be able to plan and prioritise workload. 
  • Be able to work on own initiative as well as a member of a team 
  • Be of smart appearance and behave professionally and be respectful to all people. 
  • Work overtime as required. 
  • Be experienced in the use of PPM systems.  

What we require for the role:

  • Have experience in managing multi skilled maintenance teams 
  • Time served apprenticeship or equivalent 
  • City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or above in maintenance mechanical/electrical discipline 
  • Previous experience within a Material Handling System, FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing environment (essential) 
  • A proactive approach to fault finding alongside excellent communication skills 
  • Be a team player with a flexible and pragmatic attitude
