Description of assignment
One of Vanderlande's sorting systems is the cross-belt sorter. At some point of this loop, parcels are being fed onto the sorter (infeed), and at another point these parcels are being transported out of the loop (outfeed). For these systems, many design choices must be made, such as the speed and length of conveyors for the infeed, and the width of the chutes of the outfeed. Models that describe the physical behavior of packages can give a first insight into these design choices.
Therefore, Vanderlande is exploring different options for physics engines that can describe this behavior. To understand the potential and limitations of different physics engines and make a proper choice for further applications in Vanderlande, this project focuses on comparing different physics engines and evaluating their predictive performance on the scenarios of infeed and outfeed.
Department description
The Technology department (R&D) plays a key role in the continuous development of new products and technologies to enhance our market presence and make our products unique. You will become a member of the Loopsorter team, which is housed within the Technology department.
This team is composed of specialists in Mechanical Development, Software/PLC Development, Electro-Mechanical Development, System Design, and Test and Integration. The combined prowess of these skills empowers us to excel in the development of Vanderlande's loopsorter systems.
Tasks/responsibilities
- Setup criteria for the predictability test for each of the selected simulators based on the scenarios.
- Setup and perform experiments in the Innovation center/Innovation lab to collect relevant experimental data used for validation.
- Validate the different physics engines on the obtained test data by performing an in-depth analysis on the data.
- Provide advice on the choice of physics engine based on the performed analysis, highlighting their possibilities and limitations.
Your profile
- You are willing to learn new skills and gain knowledge on modeling, analyzing, design & validation.
- You take ownership and can work individually on your assignment.
- *Mandatory enrolment to a Dutch Education System & resident of The Netherlands.
