Internship / Graduation: Develop new tensioning and tracking unit for Tubtrax transfer

For the Tubtrax system, Vanderlande would like to improve the transfer to perpendicular divert or merge the carriers. The assignment would be to improve the belt tracking and tensioning of the transfer, and finish with a final design which can be transferred to a working proof of concept/prototype.
Currently we already have an transfer which is used for several years. The transfer got a redesign in 2019, but the belt tracking and tensioning principle remained the same. This means that the belt should be tensioned by measuring the elongation. Despite the fact that the construction works, it does has the need for improvement.
The current principle is very basic, and is not self adjusting. The assignment will be to develop an end take-up with the similar principle as the twinbelt. This means a tensioning principle using a spring and a eccentric mechanism to track the belt.
You will join the mechanical team within Tubtrax, which currently exists out of approximately 5 mechanical engineers. Tubtrax is part of the Airports platform, and is a system that is used to transport and store baggage within an airport.
During the assignment, the student will have its own workplace at the campus. Due to Covid, it must also be possible to work from home
Tasks / responsibilities
The goal for this assignment would be to have a completely worked out End take-up and matching moveable frame which will fit in the current transfer frame. This will include not only 3D-models, but also all necessary calculations like belt-, tolerance-, and FEM-calculations. You must involve supply chain in the process to come up with the most price effective solutions.
You must have knowledge of SolidWorks or at least a similar 3D CAD program and must be willing to develop SolidWorks Skills. Furthermore, the student must have some experience in developing 3D models and drawings.
