Assignment type: Internship
Start date: February 2022
Assignment duration: 6 months
Educational Level: HBO
Desired study: International Business or related
Description of the assignment
On April 1st 2021 we went live with a new organizational structure within HR. This meant the birth of a new sub-department, new roles and responsibilities, as well as a lot of new people that joined us. Today there is a strong focus to embed this transition – however in the meantime we continuously look for further improvement opportunities as well.
One of the improvements identified is to get a better grip on which projects we run on a global and local level, how we prioritize them, what is feasible with the resources we have, as well as how we execute those projects. In summary: there is a strong need for well-established portfolio and project management.
The nine regional People Services Leads have on request performed a first inventory of the projects running/and or upcoming. We now have to define the following:
- How can we track overall portfolio value as well as the interdependencies, what do we report back on to the PS MT
- How can we better allocate and manage our resources over the portfolio
- How can we equip the People Services Leads to get a better grip on their portfolio (e.g. organizing regular project reviews)
- How can we equip People Services Employees who want to either lead local projects or be part of global initiatives
This internship provides you the unique opportunity to be part of an international management team, in an international and fast growing context. The foundation will be in data analytics and project management related tasks.
People Services is one of the three sub-departments within HR. We deliver HR services to all customer segments, with a deep focus on employee experience, operational excellence and continuous improvement. We do this across organizational and geographic boundaries.
The other two sub-departments are 1. The Centre of Excellence and 2. Business HR. The COE’s own the design of business relevant people solutions and transfer those to People Services, while Business HR partners as a key account manager with the business on a strategic and tactical level. We also closely work together with departments as Finance and ICT.
As an intern you will be part of our People Services Management Team. This team consists of nine regional leaders, a HR SSC lead, me as the PMO Lead and last but definitely not least the Global People Services Lead (our manager). A very new, diverse, and caring team.
Next to you, we will also have another intern joining our team for the same period who will focus on how we can create a culture and mindset of Continuous Improvement within HR. We strongly encourage you to connect, share experiences and support each other.
Set-up a Project Management training offer for our People Services Employees, in collaboration with the Academy and other interested parties (COE, Business HR). Further improve our portfolio practice by ‘upgrading’ our existing excel, mainly on two things: translating the data available to insightful reports/dashboards and introduce resource capacity management
In the meantime we would also highly encourage you to research how we can utilize the data available in our portfolio. Would this be for better decision-making or is there another need you have identified? This is a fun little mystery we would leave up to you to find out.
Operational task: Manage the weekly PS MT meeting, meaning you will own the agenda, gather input from guest speakers, prepare the presentations and follow-up on our meetings (proactive)
From data to ensuring impact through others, this is a fun and challenging internship that provides insight in a broad range of project and portfolio processes, working with others in an international context.
Due to the diversity of this internship, you can be certain that it will be a great learning opportunity. Furthermore, it allows you to build a great network within Vanderlande, which can always be useful for future career opportunities.
