As a 2nd/3rd line support engineer you will be working in Los Angeles Airport Service Site as a member of the Operations and Maintenance team. The role will support services, projects and upgrades to the Vanderlande Baggage Handling System at Tom Bradley International Terminal. Duties will include tracking, documenting and handling disruptions, errors and inquiries regarding automated material handling solutions supported and managed by the Vanderlande Services team at the Airport. Strong technical and verbal skills are necessary, alongside the ability to work to tight deadlines. All incidents and progress of these are recorded in the Vanderlande ITSM solution, DOS Maximo. The IT Systems Engineer role will be responsible for quickly resolving faults and other issues on our customers' material handling systems, focused on Software applications and IT Database issues with the aim of restoring service within agreed Service Level Agreements. Alongside these duties, the role will require performing remote health checks, advise on modifications to the IT infrastructure and systems, coordinate and support implementation of fixes, root cause analysis and post incident reports.
The Los Angeles Customer Center is part of the Vanderlande organization providing products and services for airport and parcel systems in North America. As part of this the Los Angeles Customer Center manages and oversees Projects and Services delivered to the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) organization. The Customer Center provides a center of excellence to assist in supporting a world leading advanced automated baggage system using highly sophisticated IT and Controls Systems, providing support to the Operations and Maintenance site team who work 24/7 365 days per year at the Tom Bradley International terminal supporting the new Vanderlande Baggage Handling System and Passenger Boarding Bridges.
IT Systems Engineer:
The candidate must be able to demonstrate several years’ experience working in IT Systems Support working with high availability or mission critical systems for customers. They should be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of commissioning, installing and/or debugging of IT Application Servers and configuration. An understanding of databases and system performance is required, alongside a good understanding of LINUX, Windows and VMware and mixed system environments, but training will be given.
Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):
- Work with the LA Airport Site team providing technical support in an IT related incident for Vanderlande supported material handling solutions
- Able to diagnose, and rectify IT Application and system faults within tight deadlines
- Work to process and escalate as required
- Write up incident summaries and provide reports as and when required
- Out of hours on call cover
Required Education and Experience:
- Experienced to degree level in a relevant IT competency
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT supporting high availability systems
- Strong communication skills, both spoken and written
- Previous experience in IT onsite Support
- Knowledge in supporting Oracle and SQL Databases
- VMWare (preferred)
- Understanding of Windows Servers (AD/Domain)
- Bachelor's degree in IT or Engineering with IT Modules
- Must be able to work unsupervised and work to tight deadlines on mission critical systems

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday office hours at the LAX Airport Service site. Occasional out of schedule work will be required based on operational and service needs. As part of a team you will be asked to participate in out of schedule, on call coverage as and when required.
Occasional short term travel to other customer centers and sites will be required.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

The employee is required to work from the Specialists office located at the MSC Terminal-Apron Level. Walking long distances throughout the day is common.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud due to aircraft engines and equipment.
Employee works in the secured baggage handling area, repair station, airfield, office environment and other areas within the airport. They often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules.
The role will require the candidate once established to provide cover for other team members, and assist in training , development and mentoring of other members of the team.
