Your responsibilities

As a Platform Operations Engineer, your primary focus is on maintaining high availability, scalability, and reliability of the data platform to meet the needs of users and customers. Your values as a tech-savvy, action-oriented, and collaboration-focused colleague are evident in your proactive nature and dedication to self-development. You play a central role in ensuring seamless operation of the data platform, fostering cooperation between teams, and making a meaningful impact through your expertise.

As part of the Operations (Ops) team, you are serving developers of cross-functional full stack teams, developers, technical specialists, and peers from various business domains. You act as a support system for stakeholders of the data platform, helping them overcome challenges while working with the data platform. Your approach to driving success is through influence, not mere authority, which empowers and inspires others. Your continuous improvement mindset and willingness to take initiative are integral to your role as a Platform Ops Engineer.

In this role, you:

• Proactively oversee the performance and condition of the data platform, detecting and resolving potential issues while also taking preventive measures.

• Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as updates, patches, and system backups, to keep the data platform running smoothly.

• Resolve complex problems and provide operational support for platform issues and service requests, and actively participate in incident reviews requiring diagnosing problems and applying appropriate solutions to restore services as quickly as possible.

• Engage in a collaborative handover process with full stack developers, offering technical expertise, knowledge transfer, and conducting thorough testing and acceptance of their deliverables.

• Manage and monitor data pipeline stability and dashboard data refreshes.

• Design, test, deploy, and maintenance of monitoring dashboards.

• Knowledge of Python, Pyspark, SQL, or R for data retrieval and manipulation would be beneficial.

• Assist in the migration of Landing Zones / Data Products.

• Implement security best practices and adhere to regulatory compliance requirements to protect the data platform from potential threats and vulnerabilities

• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures to support knowledge sharing across the team.

• Advise on efficiency improvements through automation and self-service solutions to ensure more efficient and reliable operations.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and actively share knowledge.

• Familiar with agile methodologies and thrives in its dynamic and collaborative environment.

Your department

The Central Data & Analytics department is tasked with extending, operating and further maturing the data platform of Vanderlande. We provide Data & Analytics related products and services to Vanderlande, primarily catering to internal customers, but supporting our digital service portfolio. Following a hub & spoke model, we establish centralized standards that are then adopted and implemented by decentralized teams within the business.

At the heart of our efforts lies the Data Platform, the core product we are diligently enhancing. This Azure cloud enabled platform based on the Data Mesh principle empowers us to deliver valuable Data Products by transforming, processing, combining, and enriching data from various source systems, ultimately creating a reliable source of truth for our customers. To enable efficient data analysis and visualization, we actively govern, and maintain the Vanderlande Qlik Servers and Power BI Premium capacity. In addition, we provide templates, establish a clear workflow, and foster a community of experts.

Our work centers around our Federated Governance model, with the Central Data & Analytics Organization as the hub serving the spokes. Our scope encompasses Data Governance, Platform Operations, Core Platform Development, and Full stack Development. The technologies we use span across the Azure stack and Databricks ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration and optimal utilization of resources. By utilizing advanced analytics techniques and the latest technology, our focus on innovation empowers us to continuously improve and innovate the Data Platform.

Operating as a scaled Agile organization, we embrace the SAFe Agile framework and work collaboratively across different teams, all united by a common backlog and shared roadmap. This approach allows us to be highly adaptable, continuously adjusting to the evolving strategic needs of stakeholders within Vanderlande.

Your qualifications and skills

If you’re an experienced, enthusiastic and versatile Platform Ops Engineer, you will bring:

• Minimum bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• 2+ years of experience working in a similar role as a support engineer.

• Service-oriented mindset is mandatory, you have the desire to help people in any way possible

• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

• Excellent communication skills with an open and clear way of expressing ideas.

• Passion for IT technology and a strong motivation for continuous learning and improvement.

• Experience working in the Azure cloud, with a preference for knowledge in security and access management, API management, infrastructure management, event-based solutions, monitoring and logging, and metadata management.

• Comfortable with a dynamic work environment and adaptable to change.

• Familiarity with Agile way of working.

• Practical experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices is a plus.

• Proficiency in utilizing Python, Pyspark, and SQL for retrieving and manipulating data is a valuable asset, though not a strict requirement.
