In this exciting role you will be responsible for developing and driving our Design for Excellence (DfX) & Value Engineering program. A solid roadmap and flawless execution of is essential in meeting and exceeding our business goals of bringing to market well differentiated and cost-effective products and services.

The Program Director Value Engineering / DfX will report into the CTO and will work closely with other functions within R&D, Supply Chain and Business Units. This role includes leading cross-functional and cross-site project teams, through the scoping, planning, execution and closure of strategic Value Engineering projects.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Set up and manage a DfX Project Management Office and driving delivery of our value engineering ambition;

  • Realize targeted savings through DfX approach;

  • Organize cross-functional, cross-site DfX Workshops for ideation and scoping of Value Engineering activities;

  • Cooperate with other departments (Engineering, R&D, Service, Supply Chain, Finance) for budget and resource planning of Value Engineering activities;

  • Maintain a funnel and pipeline of Value Engineering activities aligned with the Value Engineering cost targets and budget/resources;

  • Organize regular reviews with Value Engineering project leaders to align on planning, progress and closure of Value Engineering projects;

  • Drive some of the Value Engineering projects as a project leader and use processes, tools and other related resources to ensure effective team dynamics and decision-making, as well as effective interactions with all internal and external collaborators;

  • Proactively identify issues, concerns or challenges in the Value Engineering program;

  • Facilitate tradeoff decisions and remove obstacles, including escalation to key stakeholders if necessary;

  • Establish DfX mindset and toolbox within Vanderlande, organize competence development around Value Engineering / DfX and train the standing organization.

Your profile
The right candidate will have a proven track record of leading and driving Value Engineering and or Business Improvement programs and possess excellent influencing and communication skills. 

Other requirements are:

  • University degree in a technical discipline or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills;

  • 5+ years of experience with program and project management in high tech manufacturing or Research and Development department;

  • Proven track record in realizing bottom line savings;

  • Experience with Value Engineering and/or Design for Excellence is a prerequisite;

  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to scope and manage complex projects from inception to completion and persistence to overcome project obstacles;

  • Business and Financial acumen: Understand product cost structure, Cost of Ownership and experienced in creating business cases;

  • Demonstrate knowledge of design principles, new product development and change management processes.

  • Demonstrate awareness of manufacturing, service, factory and supply chain processes;

  • Demonstrates ability to create and deliver presentations appropriately scaled to the audience. Confident at interacting with senior management;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop authentic relationships with stakeholders.

  • Strong negotiation skills and demonstrated track record of driving decisions and discussions;

  • Able to work across language and cultural barriers.
