Regulatory Technician

Reports to: 

Regulatory Supervisor (Line Manager)


Working the majority of the role within London Heathrow Airport. The Regulatory Technician will be performing Statutory test and inspection duties to ensure the baggage, associated systems and operational equipment is available, health & safety compliance, quality, Maximo reporting and team working is optimized in accordance with agreed timescales.


This role would suit an individual who is patient, organised, thorough and gives consistent performance in a structured and predictable climate. The incumbent should be friendly by nature and have the ability to build relationships. Persistence and the need to see a task through to conclusion are integral to the function and the person in the role should have the ability to work to clearly defined parameters. If you are well organised, dependable, approachable, composed, amiable, friendly and fairly strong-willed then this role would suit you. The role requires someone who is diplomatic, helpful, accommodating a good listener and can lead by example.

  • To be proficient in all aspects of the operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Electrical fault-finding and fault-rectification skills, including the replacement and configuration of field devices (motor controllers, sensors, scanners etc).
  • To test inspect and maintain all equipment through a proactive approach with a "right first time" approach and to seek permanent solutions through a culture of continuous improvement.  Ensure all situations are fulfilled by effective planned corrective test and inspection regimes.
  • To enter all work carried out and parts used into Maximo
  • To be conversant and capable of working in all areas:
    • Baggage Conveyors
    • ULD Systems
    • Automatic storage cranes
    • Individual Carrier Systems
    • Robotic baggage handling machinery
    • Manual handling aids

Ensure the team objectives are consistently achieved and improved.  Perform planned statutory test and inspections and portable appliance testing, corrective and reactive repairs in a timely manner as required. Record all work done and parts used in CMMS system (Maximo) where applicable

Team Play

Provide cover for other service technicians / Shifts when necessary.

Ensure thorough knowledge transfer through sharing of knowledge and information.

Carry out routine regulatory and statutory duties including, but not limited to:

Look to find root cause of issues and find permanent solutions to issues encountered.

Be proactive report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses

Carry out point of work assessments

Ensure all company legislative Health & Safety regulations and policies are maintained. Work in a safe considerate manner and leave all work areas clean and tidy at all times.

Skill & Experience:

Demonstrate problem/fault fining skills. Understand how to collect, validate sufficient information to carry out effective root cause analysis and develop recommendations for implementation

Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate precisely both in writing and verbally at all level

Be able to plan and priorities workload.

Be able to work on own initiative as well as a member of a team.

Be of smart appearance and behave professionally and be respectful to all people.

Work overtime as required.

Be experienced in the use of PPM systems.


City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or City and Guilds 2360/2330 part 1 & 2

City & Guilds 2391/2394 and 2395 in Inspection and Testing

City and Guilds BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

C&G 2377 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

Ability to read and interpret drawings.

Good level of IT literacy

Ability to obtain and maintain a full airside pass.

A proactive approach to fault finding alongside excellent communication skills.

Be a team player with a flexible and pragmatic attitude.

Full driving license (to attain airside driving license).

Be willing to work across the UK service function


First Aid trained

IPAF and PASMA trained

Have experience in using PLC’s and diagnostics

An understanding of Health and Safety Regulations within the workplace.

Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing environment
