The fast-changing market requirements for our BU Warehousing mean we need to adapt to stay ahead. In your role as Segment Manager your challenge is to ensure that in 5 years’ time, we are still the partner of choice for our target segments. 

Your position 

As the Segment Manager you are the strategic and tactical owner of the market segment. The market segments require a solid translation of validated market insights and segment specific needs (2-5-10 years from now) into strategic direction & objectives that help to steer the business today.

You are the driving force in aligning these objectives with the Long Term Plan. You do this in close collaboration with the customer centers, and you monitor these continuously. To monitor the progress on the strategic objectives, you periodically release market reports which provide a comprehensive overview of the current market and Vanderlande’s competitiveness. 

You guide the Solutions team by providing the segment strategy and sharing insights which are used as leading input for prioritizing roadmap developments. During the lifecycle of our market leading solutions, you own the go-to-market plan & approach to ensure alignment with the segment strategy, market segmentation and the Long Term Plan. Furthermore, you drive strategic market development and collaborate with customer centers in the critical first phases of new solution x market combinations.  

In this role, you will be part of the Strategy Team, which is part of the BU WS Strategy and Solutions department, and reports into the Head of Strategy. 

Your responsibilities 

  • Responsible for owning and delivering the global market segment strategy in line with the BU WS Strategy. 
    • Translate market insights into the strategic direction & strategic objectives specific to the market segment by developing the 5-year strategic plan (strategy 2028) 
    • Prioritizing solution x market combinations 
    • Create & periodically monitor scenario-based models for the segment development 
    • Support customer targeting in selected market segments in collaboration with the regional strategist
  • Accountable for delivering the Long Term Plan in alignment with the segment strategy, in close collaboration with the regional strategist in the customer centers. 
    • Align strategic objectives with customer center targets by leading quarterly business reviews comparing sales & revenue pipeline against commitments in the Long Term Plan 
    • Develop a profound understanding of the financial performance of the market segment 
  • Accountable for delivering strategic reports on the market segment based on outside-in, fact-based information. 
    • Providing a comprehensive and complete overview of the external world, our customers, our competitive advantage, and the Vanderlande performance 
    • Thorough analysis of competitor capabilities in relation to the Vanderlande unique selling points 
    • Monitoring the strategic objectives set in the Global Segment Strategy
  • Responsible for owning the go-to-market program for the segment specific market leading solutions (including life cycle services). 
    • Be leading in the prioritizing of strategic multi-year segment roadmaps and define synergies between market segments, among other through supporting the development of sound business cases 
    • Proper execution of market introduction
    • Liaise with the marketing director & marketing communication on campaigns dedicated to the market segment (and the key accounts in the segment)
    • Identify and validate (with customers) business (model) opportunities and work those out to the level where solution management can apply it to market leading solutions 

Your profile 

  • Master’s degree in a business (or technical) field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in either product management of high-end investment goods or solutions and/or strategic business or market development 
  • Experience in translating customer/market needs into broad directions for solution development 
  • Able to challenge the way things have been done and handled, and to drive change and create focus 
  • Experience in working with multinational teams within a matrix organization
  • Proven analytical, result-driven and pragmatic problem-solving skills
  • Experience in FOOD retail 
  • Strong presentation and communication skills 
  • Excellent command of English and preferably another language
  • Creative mindset, strong customer focus
  • Willingness to travel internationally (10-30%)
