Vanderlande is a global market leader in material handling systems. Working within projects, the Senior Site Manager will be responsible for the management and delivery of both baggage and non baggage work packages in line with the programme schedule operating inside the VI site management structure within large and complex projects.
A Senior Site Manager will primarily organize, drive, and manage the safe and efficient execution of the project construction work packages through management of a team of site managers, senior site supervisors and wider project site team representing an integral member of the project leadership team and is responsible for ensuring safe, appropriate and optimal site conditions are established that facilitate right first time zero defects installation at the required rate of installation.
Ownership of construction planning activities and forecasting inclusive of planned vs actual and is accountable for positively contributing to the production of associated deliverables, their review and sign off to provide assurance and unambiguous expectations supporting a safe and successful execution. Effectively oversee all work packages to ensure safe and timely execution whilst actively seeking opportunity for continuous improvement to safeguard Vanderlande’s everyday better strategy.
Possession of a comprehensive product/business knowledge will be key in ensuring success demonstrated through cross disciplinary strengths, conflict resolution and previous experience of successful delivery within large/complex infrastructure projects. Proven leadership through guidance and mentoring of direct reports and peers to achieve a productive, positive and motivational working environment ensuring all outputs add value.
Proactively driving a Stay Safe culture and right first-time delivery ensuring the project teams and associated supply chain inclusive of subcontractors and third parties understand and implement expected safe working practices during the execution of site delivery phases and work activities of the project.
Management of planning activities through last planner and T- related engagement with subcontractors and third parties to confirm and validate site readiness to ensure a successful execution throughout a project lifecycle to include recognition of potential risks and opportunities, commercial awareness, conflict resolution and ability to facilitate necessary discussions at all levels within the project team.
Ownership and accountability for all aspects of site management execution inclusive of safety, quality and design assurance throughout all phases of the project lifecycle from Pre-Construction to handover.
Champion site management processes, ensuring optimisations are identified and embedded in alignment with wider functions to improve execution on site and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Be an ambassador for Vanderlande’s stay safe culture, striving for achievement of zero LTI’s and RIDDORs on site through championing safe working practices, process adherence, legislative compliance and implementation of the project HSE plan.
Build Reputation with Customers
Responsible for liaison and interface management with clients and relevant stakeholders, to support a safe, efficient, and effective execution of all work packages whilst maintaining commercial awareness and safeguarding a satisfactory resolution where ambiguity resides.
Focal point for driving right first-time installations and client acceptance with early engagement and alignment to support gateways and project milestones creating a continuous and unimpeded transition between activities on site.
Organise, integrate and manage multi-disciplinary installation activities. Identify and analyse risks and opportunities, initiating adequate corrective/ preventive measures providing updates to the wider project team. Proactively seek and identify optimisation and delegate responsibilities throughout the site team to support successful achievement and alignment with continuous improvement initiatives, embedding best practice whilst driving a positive safety culture.
Drive to Win
Control of subcontractor planned vs. actual progress and gauging the merits of initiatives to mitigate slippage e.g. cost of overtime vs benefit from acceleration in the most efficient manner, acting as the point of escalation.
Lead and manage a team of multi-disciplined site managers and site supervisors individually and collectively providing guidance and mentorship supporting KPI’s and objectives in addition to ensuring satisfactory completion of deputized responsibilities.
Maintain a cohesive working environment where ownership and accountabilities are unambiguous within the site team and executed through empowerment, delegated authority and motivation.
Support the Construction Group Leader with initiatives, positively influence efficiencies and improvements within both the site team and subcontractors.

Promote sustainable & continuously improving optimization of a safe working culture, project schedule and quality standards on site. Take ownership of everyday better initiatives on site through cross functional collaboration and lessons learned. Undertake regular gap analysis and implement improvements where inefficiencies are identified.

Can demonstrate the ability to communicate with all levels of the site team providing factual and concise input in a timely manner. Ability to balance competing priorities whilst maintaining a safe environment and meeting deadlines in a pressured, time critical delivery.
Will be a key influencer in encouraging the promotion of Stay Safe culture across the whole site
- 5-10 Years experience in successfully managing large teams during delivery of large and complex projects in a demanding environment with proven results
- Successful proven implementation of all phases within a project lifecycle, ranging from pre-construction through to handover
- Managing a multi-functional team, interfacing with clients where appropriate, and chairing meetings locally at site level as required. Adept at conflict resolution
- Awareness and solid understanding of CDM Regulations and HASWA.
- Possess the ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications, layouts and successfully interpret project schedules
- Ability to create robust site planning to complement the master project schedule through owning last planner activities and management of the 12WIS and T- engagement
- Production, validation and execution of documentation deliverables
- IT literate, capable of using MS Office and Outlook as a minimum
- Proven Safety record through site management and installation delivery within time critical and pressurised working environments
- Possess the ability to champion Vanderlande’s Stay Safe Culture and safe working ethos
- Be able to provide robust reports and drive progress whilst maintaining Vanderlande’s quality standards
- NEC Contract awareness and ability to demonstrate successful management
- SMSTS Trained as a minimum
- NVQ Level 7 or equivalent
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- Higher Level technical qualification
