Your Position

As a Shift Manager within our 24/7 operating distribution center in Dandenong South, you will focus on three key priorities: Safety, Team Engagement, and delivering a Best-in-Class, customer-leading service. This role involves navigating a highly automated and dynamic environment, fostering a safe working atmosphere, engaging a diverse team of professionals, and ensuring exceptional service that puts our customers at the forefront. This role is not just about managing the present, but also about steering the team towards a successful future.

You will work on a 4 on / 4 off rotating roster with a work schedule of two 12 hour day shifts, two 12 hour night shifts and then four consecutive days off.

Your Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the operation during your shift, ensuring quick and efficient responses to errors and rectifying technical problems within SLA.
  • Keep an eye on the performance of our highly automated distribution center and its assets, and implement strategies to boost efficiency and productivity.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging your team to innovate and optimize operations.
  • Be the link between the customer, senior management, and the team on the floor, ensuring clear and effective communication at all times.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety across all operations and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Lead the team in crisis situations, ensuring swift responses and resolution of errors to maximize system uptime and throughput. Follow the Major Incident Management Process (MIMP) and coordinate with remote service desk resources.
  • Effectively manage resources, focusing on strategic management rather than hands-on tasks. Recognize and reward team achievements to maintain motivation and engagement.
  • Handle all administrative, leadership, and HR tasks for the team, including scheduling, performance reviews, and conflict resolution.
  • Operate effectively in different modes (Business as Usual, Incident Management, Deployment) while maintaining operational requirements and a level head

About You

  • A degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Certifications (Highly Desirable): Certification in leadership/people management and Continuous Improvement, such as Six Sigma.
  • Proven experience in a managerial role within a complex, automated distribution center or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Knowledge of automated systems and processes in a distribution center.
  • Ability to quickly identify and resolve problems, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in a distribution center environment.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality, customer-leading service.
