Platform Architect / System architect

As a Platform Architect, it is your job to create and enhance the platform architecture that is the basis of Vanderlande’s product and solution development. You will work together with a team of entrepreneurial business and technology experts to realize the evolving needs of the customers and the company strategy of Vanderlande.

Your department

The Architecture & Integration group is part of the Technology organisation within Vanderlande and is responsible for the platform architecture of Vanderlande’s product portfolio across all market segments. Your department drives standardization of products and modules. At the same time, it provides the Business Units with the necessary agility to quickly and efficiently create tailored customer solutions out of a set of standardised building blocks.

Your position

You work in a highly motivated platform architecture team and together, you are responsible for the creation of the platform architecture according the challenging business and technology roadmap. You drive the platform based development in the development centers worldwide to develop functional modules and products, which are delivered to the business units to be used globally in customer projects.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Define platform architectural principles, standards and guidelines and provide guidance and support to development teams for correct and consistent application of the architecture.

  • Performs impact analysis of new platform features and create a decomposition and allocation to functional and technical modules.

  • At all times keep the overview of the overall platform solution and behavior by owning and managing the platform's architecture descriptions and models;

  • Contribute to the platform architecture roadmap to translate the business and technology roadmaps into a stepwise evolution of the platform architecture towards the vision;

  • Act as the owner of the platform architecture and a technical leader for the organization;

  • Act as domain expert on the application of logistic strategies within an automated system;

  • Identify integration risks early and mitigate these risks in the platform architecture, consulting with specialists when needed;

  • Deploy the platform architecture to various stakeholders in their frame of reference;

Your profile

The combination of personality, domain knowledge and technical skills is the key success factor for this job.

  • You have a technical Master’s degree with 5 to 10 years relevant working experience in multidisciplinary product development like PLCs, embedded software applications, motor drives, mechanics.

  • Basic knowledge of product manufacturing supply chain, site installations

  • Preferably, you have experience in descriptive modeling, preferably SysML and BPMN and model based design (e.g. code generation, matlab/simulink)

  • Experience with product platform or product line architectures is a plus;

  • You have a helicopter view to analyze complex systems and architectures, create structure and provide solutions;

  • You are a team player with natural leadership skills with excellent communicative skills to guide development teams to apply the architecture principles;

  • You enjoy working in an international setting and you are willing to travel (10%);

  • You have excellent knowledge of the English language;

  • Domain knowledge about Warehouse and/or Parcel domain is a pre.
