Vanderlande understands the complexities associated with operating a successful airport and parcel operation and delivers future proof logistic process automation. These automation systems are composed of many (electro-) mechanical and IT components, built by teams in various parts of the world and must be integrated with software systems to support the processes of our customers.
As a Simulation Engineer, you conduct studies on the dynamic interaction in – and the logistics performance of – the complex material handling systems sold by Vanderlande. You use 3-D simulation software to analyze and solve complex logistic problems. With your analytical skills and proactive attitude, you optimize the system and identify bottlenecks prior to installation at the customer site. You develop conceptual improvements to control strategies and provide customers with tailored advice by thinking creatively when developing your simulation model. After you have gained more experience, your communication skills will enable you to act as a link between the different disciplines involved when working on larger projects.
Your tasks and responsibilities
- Define and setup a 3D simulation model according to the sales concept or engineering layout of a project using the Vanderlande standards.
- Work closely together with the sales engineering team and the project execution team to validate the system concept.
- Identify potential system bottlenecks and solutions how to resolve them.
- Create simulation design, verification, and reports.
- Present and explains simulation results to clients and consultants.
As Simulation Engineer you report to the group integration manager. Based on your field of interest there is opportunity to grow to a Sales Engineer or Solution Architect role.
Your department
The APAC project integration department is part of the business unit Airport & Parcel Solutions within Vanderlande Industries. The department is responsible for system design, testing and integration of complex Airport and Parcel systems for customer in the Asia Pacific region like Changi, Hong Kong and Sydney airport and DHL and FedEx international customers. The department works in an international team setting with people from different countries with different cultural backgrounds.
Your Profile
You are an analytical engineer who thinks in a systems perspective. You are able to manage small details while keeping an eye on the big picture. You like to work together in an international multi-disciplinary team of engineers.
- You have a Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant technical discipline
- Knowledge of simulation, flow analysis and quantitative analysis techniques
- Affinity with IT and Industrial Automation and interested in logistic processes is a plus, but we are willing to train your domain knowledge.
- Understanding of programming and at least some experience in programming languages like Matlab, VBA, SQL, JAVA etc.
- 2-3 years relevant experience
- Good communication skills in English
- Assertive team player and proactive
- Willing to travel occasionally.
- Must be willing to relocate for 9-12 months to Shanghai to work alongside current simulation team
