Team Lead Mechanical Project Engineer
Reports to: Group Project Engineering Manager
As a Lead Mechanical Project Engineer within Vanderlande’s Airport and Parcel Solutions division, you will lead mechanical engineering efforts on medium to large BHS and parcel projects. Your leadership will ensure that mechanical systems meet technical, safety, and customer-specific requirements, delivering efficient, integrated solutions across airports and parcel distribution centers globally. This role requires close collaboration with teams across multiple disciplines and regions, positioning you as a key player in driving successful project outcomes for some of the world’s most complex logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Led the mechanical design and execution of medium to large BHS and parcel solutions, ensuring compliance with technical, functional, and safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with Low-Level Controls, High-Level Controls, installation teams, and other departments to ensure integrated system designs that address airport and parcel system needs.
- Manage the entire lifecycle of mechanical engineering activities, from concept through commissioning, ensuring all work is delivered on time and within budget.
- Oversee the development of detailed engineering documentation, including shop drawings, material specifications, and project plans, ensuring that they align with Vanderlande’s commitment to excellence.
- Conducted factory acceptance tests (FAT) and managed the testing process for mechanical components, ensuring systems were ready for implementation in high-demand environments.
- Mentor and lead a team of mechanical engineers and layout engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation to deliver superior solutions for customers.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to mechanical engineering work, ensuring that projects meet both budgetary and time constraints.
- Provide support during installation and commissioning phases, offering on-site or remote assistance to resolve challenges and ensure project success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience working on Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) in airports or parcel distribution centers.
- Expertise in NAVISWORKS, AutoCAD 3D, BIM Revit, and relevant CAD software.
- Leadership experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex projects.
- Familiarity with the specific requirements of airport and parcel environments, including safety regulations and system performance standards.
- Willingness to travel internationally for project oversight and training.
