Description of the assignment
To optimize the logistics process of our retail distribution center customers, the Vanderlande system collects a lot of data about the products that our customers send to the stores. The equipment that handles these products is heavily depending on the quality of this data for correct processing. The collection of this data is largely a manual process executed by a trained operator. However, we see that with different operators this can result in different datasets for similar products.
As a result the equipment does not handle similar products the same way, which can lead to interruptions during the logistic processes. The product data consists of measured and calculated properties of the product in an Oracle database augmented with image captures. The assignment is to investigate the options for assisting the operator (possibly with an AI application) by suggesting one or more already known ‘look-a-like’ products that are similar to the new product that the operator is entering.
Department description
This assignment is within the Technology department of Vanderlande, also known as Research and Development (R&D). Your focus will be within the ‘Robotic Workcells’ team, which is responsible for robotized cells and robot-related equipment for warehousing, parcel, and airport segments. In this project, you will mainly be working on your own with the support of a system architect and/or senior software engineer. You will be working mainly for the warehousing segment.
Tasks/responsibilities
- Investigate feasibility of AI application for ‘look-a-like’ feature.
- Make a design for the ‘look-a-like’ feature.
- If feasible, develop a prototype implementation.
- Make a proposal for next steps in development.
Your profile
What we expect to be delivered at the end of the internship is are drawings of the current test setup, drawings on how the test setup should look like and possibly an updated test setup
- *Mandatory enrolment to a Dutch Education System & resident of The Netherlands.
- Knowledge of and experience with C#
- Knowledge of and experience with Oracle and SQL
- Knowledge of AI application
- Strong communication and planning skills
- Affinity with logistic systems and/or warehouse automation
