The Role:

The R&D Electrical Engineer is part of a multidisciplinary team who are responsible for developing and refining products and processes for use in the automated logistics industry. The R&D Electrical Engineer is largely focused on industrial electrical design but is also engaged in aspects of machine control and electromechanical design. This role requires travel up to 10%, both domestically and internationally.

Core Job Functions Include:

  • Creating electrical designs and architectures for standard products
  • Defining design parameters for the application of standard products by project teams
  • Being well versed in applicable standards such as UL and NEC
  • Developing and maintaining standard methods for performing engineering calculations
  • Setting process and design standards in place for use by project teams
  • Helping develop automation for repetitive CAD and design processes
  • Executing or coordinating physical testing of equipment

Electrical Design for Machine Control

AutoCAD Electrical/Eplan (Single and Multi-Line Drawings)

NEMA/NFPA 70/NEC/NFPA 79/NFPA 70E/UL508A

Safety PLCs (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider)

Industrial Fieldbus (e.g. EthernetIP, Profinet)

Preferred Areas of Experience/Knowledge:

IEC/CE

Familiarity with Parcel and Airports Logistics

Distributed I/O

Industrial Fieldbus (e.g. Profibus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, ASi, Modbus)

Arc Flash Analysis

Machine Safety (ISO13849)

Motor Control Theory

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)

Predictive Maintenance

Condition Based Monitoring

IIoT v4 (Industrial Internet of Things)

Knowledge of sensor feedback (photo electric, limit switches, proximity etc…)

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent)

2 years relevant experience
