We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Shipping Manager to join our team at Vanderlande. As a key member of our global supply chain organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of goods to our customers across the globe.

What will you be doing?

As a Shipping Manager within Vanderlande, you will be responsible for setting up global shipping plans using three main modalities (split: 80% Ocean freight, 15% Airfreight and 5% Road freight). The Shipping Manager guides global projects from the sales- to execution stage and leads a team of forwarding officers which are responsible for executing your shipping plans.

The shipping Manager works from Veghel and is willing to travel to when needed (max 5% of your time). He/She is part of the Contracts and Routing Team and reports to the Manager Forwarding, Contracting & Routing. The shipping manager works in a team of three Shipping Managers with whom he/she prepares shipping projects and also leads a team of four forwarding officers.

Responsibilities

If you’re an enthusiastic, and versatile Shipping Manager, you will excel at:

  • Determine the best shipping plan in consultation with project management, supply chain, and procurement;
  • Able to advise on shipping strategies
  • Determine and negotiate the transport and packaging costs for projects and the associated risk assessment;
  • Ensure trade compliance with (country-specific) transportation requirements;
  • Support procurement- and manufacturing teams on inbound flow from external suppliers;
  • Steer on continuous improvement and KPI’s and improve sustainability within the department;
  • Closely monitoring projects, measure (internal) performances and adjust accordingly;
  • Contribute to the transportation strategy by focusing on efficiency, reliability and innovation;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers;
  • Leading, mentoring and motivating a team;
  • Overseeing operations and make suggestions regarding process optimalization.

What do we ask from you?​

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics or Operations
  • A passion for logistics and shipping
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Planning and organization skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Global forwarding knowledge (incoterms, export documentation, impact on duties & taxes)
  • An enthusiastic team player
  • Monitoring and analyzing (freight) costs to ensure financial quality;
  • Negotiating skills
  • Individual- and team leadership – you enjoy coaching people
  • An excellent communicator in English (and preferably also in Dutch)
  • Knowledge of intermodal transportation is a plus
