Role Profile

General Operative

Reports to:

Context:

Vanderlande is the global market leader in baggage handling systems for airports, and sorting systems for parcel and postal services. Working within the airport service team, the general operative will be performing duties to ensure equipment availability, health & safety compliance, quality, Maximo reporting and team working is optimised in accordance with agreed timescales.

Persona:

This role would suit someone who can give consistent performance within a highly structured and predictable climate. The applicant should have the ability to deal with routine tasks and the persistence to see a job through to conclusion. The job is of a specialist, technical and administrative nature where the person is required to use knowledge and expertise. A friendly approach and the ability to communicate in a thorough and factual manner are integral to the role. Standard operating procedures, adherence to rules, and a patient, hard working nature are also important aspects of the role. Ideally the person fulfilling this job will have the ability to work within specific guidelines whilst at the same time maintaining quality and standards. If you are routine-orientated, methodical, thorough, compliant, cautious, sensitive, diplomatic, self-disciplined, amiable and accommodating then this role would suit you.

Accountabilities

Ownership

To be proficient in aspects of the operation and maintenance procedures.

Screening machine IQT testing 

1st line response to bag jams

Assist Facilities Assistants in cleaning duties

Ensuring emergency stop procedures are adhered to

Communicating with the baggage control room to effectively resolve issues within the baggage handling system. 

Have a proactive approach to fault finding

Build Reputation with Customers

Interface to customer in a professional and courteous manner either face to face, telephone, email.

Ensure contract SLAs are consistently achieved and improved

Drive to Win

Ensure contract SLA's are consistently achieved and improved.  Assist with planned preventative maintenance, corrective and reactive maintenance in timely manner as required. Record all work done and parts used in CMMS system (Maximo) where applicable

Team Play

Provide cover for other team members when necessary.

Ensure thorough knowledge transfer through sharing of knowledge and information

Everyday Better

Assist with routine maintenance duties including, but not limited to: operational checks, functionality checks, cleaning, adjustment, lubrication and monitoring. Look to find root cause of issues and find permanent solutions to issues encountered.

Support a safe working environment within business development through championing and encouragement of a safety-first culture. Ensure all company legislative Health & Safety regulations and policies are maintained. Work in a safe considerate manner and leave all work areas clean and tidy at all times.

Experience:

Be willing to assist and learn from a multi-disciplined team in a fast moving environment.     

Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate precisely both in writing and verbally at all levels 

Be computer literate 

Be able to plan and prioritise work load 

Be able to work on own initiative as well as a member of a team 

Be of smart appearance and behave professionally and be respectful to all people 

Work overtime as required 

Essential 

A proactive approach to fault finding alongside excellent communication skills 

Be a team player with a flexible and pragmatic attitude 

Desirable  

Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing
