Description of the assignment
This assignment is about proposing a new data structure approach for engineering content to be used within sales engineering design activities.
ESoT is Vanderlande's in-house developed tool used in combination with AutoCAD to design Material handling solutions during sales. ESoT consists of a lot of different components (different conveyor types) that can be selected and included by the sales user in the Material handling solution design.
Currently, these components in ESoT are defined with both sales and detailed engineering data combined and intertwined. This data structure setup leads to a significant amount of computing during design activities which creates a lot of waiting times for sales users. Additionally, this set-up limits smooth integration to other important (sales) processes (e.g. planning = lead time for installing conveyor, pricing = what the conveyor cost, power = what installed power the conveyor requires).
What approach on ESoT content data structure will help to diminish the negative consequences currently experienced by ESoT users within sales engineering WS CC INT? Scope for this study with regards to ESoT Content
Department = Sales Engineering WS CC INT.
The Sales Engineering department supports Sales Management to sell projects. We take care of a significant part of the commercial and technical deliverables during the sales phase. When a project is sold, it is handed-over to engineering and operations departments.
Team = Sales Support Office
The Sales Support Office executes support activities for sales projects in pre-bid and bid phases and provides tooling to support sales processes.
The student will be working in the Sales Support Office team (part of the Sales Engineering department). He/she will execute this assignment on his/her own with the support of different stakeholders from the Sales Support Office and Sales Layout Engineering team.
- We expect a report that summarizes the alternative approach how to deal with ESoT content data structure to diminish negative consequences users within sales face today.
- On top of a report, we hope to receive a prototype that proves the feasibility for the new approach on ESoT content data structure.
- The person preferably has a mechanical engineering background on Master level (TU/e, TU Delft)
- The person should be able to work in an International (English speaking environment)
- The person is familiar with coding & programming. Should be able to read, understand code and where needed, write some him/herself (prototype)
