Your department

The Central Data & Analytics department is tasked with extending, operating and further maturing the data platform of Vanderlande. We provide Data & Analytics related products and services to Vanderlande, primarily catering to internal customers, but supporting our digital service portfolio. Following a hub & spoke model, we establish centralized standards that are then adopted and implemented by decentralized teams within the business.

At the heart of our efforts lies the Data Platform, the core product we are diligently enhancing. This Azure cloud enabled platform based on the Data Mesh principle  empowers us to deliver valuable Data Products by transforming, processing, combining, and enriching data from various source systems, ultimately creating a reliable source of truth for our customers. To enable efficient data analysis and visualization, we actively govern, and maintain the Vanderlande Qlik Servers and Power BI Premium capacity. In addition, we provide templates, establish a clear workflow, and foster a community of experts.

Our work centers around our Federated Governance model, with the Central Data & Analytics Organization as the hub serving the spokes. Our scope encompasses Data Governance, Platform Operations, Core Platform Development, and Full stack Development. The technologies we use span across the Azure stack and Databricks ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration and optimal utilization of resources.

By utilizing advanced analytics techniques and the latest technology, our focus on innovation empowers us to continuously improve and innovate the Data Platform.

What will you be doing?

As a Cloud Platform Architect, you will be responsible for defining, designing and optimizing the technical architecture of our solutions in our Azure Data Platform. Ensuring they are fit for purpose, up to date with the latest standards and features, and interface well with other parts of the Vanderlande organization. This includes design principles and patterns, the technology and tool stack, and structural problem solving when issues occur. In short; in this role you are one of the masterminds behind the implementation of the Data Mesh Vision and thus the Data Platform of Vanderlande.

As Cloud Platform Architect, you will be part of the Data & Analytics Core team. This team is responsible for the implementation of all platform-wide features on the Data Platform. You will work closely with our full stack development teams whose purpose is to focus on translating business requirements to Data Products. In addition to working on continuous innovation and technical improvement of the Data Platform, you will also ensure that the full stack teams have an optimal way of working both in terms of quality and efficiency. Hence, your overarching goal is to improve the data platform such that the code quality and efficiency of the data products improves, as well as the end user experience within Vanderlande. Therefore, it is important to also be able to communicate well with both developers and business users.

Responsibilities

On a regular basis, you will interact with IT Architects and their peers within the Technology Domain to ensure one shared architectural vision, and enabling alignment of the data platform with all current and future initiatives within Vanderlande.

In this role, you:

  • Collaborate with other IT teams and infrastructure architects on best practices, patterns, and vision for Data Platform architecture, self-service, API, and automation. 

  • Work closely with development teams to ensure operational policies and controls align with development processes, including creative automation of redundant activities. 

  • Participate in end-to-end development with business users through prototyping, validation, implementation, launch, and further iterations. You participate in architecture and roadmap discussions. 

  • Design new product and service features to scale the Data Platform landscape, and support developers implementing them. 

What do we ask from you?

If you’re an experienced, enthusiastic and hands-on Cloud Platform Architect, you should bring:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science / Engineering a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.​

  • 5+ years of experience working in Azure and Cloud computing.

  • Proficiency in the building blocks of Azure cloud services, architecture and data platforms relevant to data management, analytics, and processing.

  • Experience in developing architecture blueprints, strategies, and roadmaps.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and address complex data challenges.

  • The ability to effectively facilitate the different development teams and being up to date on the latest technical developments in our space.

  • You have good knowledge of Software Design Patterns and programming experience. Fluency in Python is a plus. 

  • You have experience with basic building blocks with the Azure Cloud infrastructure such as Resource groups, AAD, Storage Accounts, etc.

  • Experience with Azure Platform services such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps is a pre.

  • Experience working with infrastructure automation using Terraform and/or Terragrunt

  • Experience working with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines and tooling (e.g. git)

  • You have experience or are willing to gain experience in Azure Databricks and related services

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Passionate about Data & Analytics, with a strong curiosity for the latest trends and emerging technologies, and proficient at strategically applying existing these emerging technologies to innovate business and operating models.

  • Proactively identify potential areas for innovation and improvement within the data platform architecture and design, leveraging emerging trends to drive strategic decision-making.

This position offers a competitive salary range of € 4500 to € 6300 gross per month (excluding 8% holiday allowance). Through exceeding performance expectations, you even have the possibility to grow outside this scale.
